Steel Panther have returned to the stage in Florida, playing three shows over the last few days. During the band’s first show in Orlando, Steel Panther welcomed *NSYNC’s Joey Fatone on stage to perform ‘Girl From Oklahoma’ with the band.
Whilst the shows provided a year-end respite for some, the band took some criticism for playing what appears to be a pretty full show during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Fatone’s performance with the band, watch below, provided one of the night’s highlights during the band’s Thursday show as Fatone took part in a small sing-off with Michael Starr, who credited the *NSYNC vocalist for being one of Steel Panther’s first fans.
Needless to say, the shows have caused quite a lot of discussion online with the band drawing some criticism for playing to what looks like to us a normal sized/packed crowd.
However, Florida has consistently been lenient when it comes to COVID-19 restrictions. For example, allowing fans to attend sporting events where other states have continued to shut down other large gathering events including concerts.
There have been approximately 1.2 million COVID-19 cases reported and 20,567 deaths caused by the virus in the state of Florida, according to The New York Times. Yesterday, 8,401 cases were reported and 95 deaths.
Even though there are those who were critical of the band playing the shows, others have weighed in supporting Steel Panther. Read relating tweets below:
We miss shows as much as you do, but this is downright irresponsible.
