How did you become a band?

Kyle: The majority of us played in a different band years ago which to be honest wasn’t very good, we played some shows and recorded some songs but ultimately we wanted a fresh start where we could move on from the old sound and take the music more seriously. So at the end of 2018 we started under the name Misplaced.

Where did the name of the band originate from?

Kyle: I don’t remember exactly when we decided the name but in 2019 we had already recorded our first songs and still didn’t have a name. I’m pretty sure the name got suggested as the name for the EP but we just decided to actually use that as the band name.

Can you tell us about the band’s lineup? Who’s who?

Kyle Beaton (vocals)

Individually, can you tell us what your favourite part about being a band is?

Kyle: For me it’s when we can get away together in the studio recording or on tour. I just love being consumed by music 24/7 with my best friends.

Kenny: The recording process for sure. Hearing the ideas you’ve been working on for months take shape is the most exciting and satisfying feeling. It’s always been a tight schedule for us so fighting against the clock creates a really intense pressure and when you get over the line it’s the best feeling. 

Nic: The sheer excitement of adventure and where the music takes us. Nothing is more enjoyable than traveling and being on stage with three of your best mates or even crammed into a small studio room creating music that we are all so proud of.

Richard: Personally for me it’s playing live with my bros, there’s a unique energy that comes from when we all play together and I’m sorely missing that right now.

Individually, can you tell us what the biggest misconception people have about being in a band?

Kyle: People often think going to record is all fun and games but in reality it’s working nonstop and watching the clock get away from you. 

Kenny: How long it takes to be recognised at all. A lot of music fans see bands releasing ‘debut’ albums and don’t realise how many years of work went in before that, often with little/no reception at all. 

Nic: I think a big misconception in being in a band is all play no work, when in fact it is the opposite.

Richard: That it’s not a real job. The amount of money and time you need to invest into a band is comparable to any start up business, it’s just a lot more fun and personal at the end of the day.

Can you give us an overview of the band’s discography?

Kyle: We released 3 singles last year all recorded and produced by Ricky Beetlestone, we then went on to release two acoustic tracks ‘Storyboard For A Pessimist’ and ‘Fate & Fairytales’ early this year. Now we’re in the process of releasing our collection of songs titled ‘FFS’.

What sets you apart from all the other bands in the genre?

Kyle: We obviously play in a genre that has had many iterations but we hope to bring something fresh, we’re influenced by a lot of the Soundcloud artists as I personally think those guys are the most exciting in alternative music at the moment. I also like to be quite candid with my lyrics when drawing from my own experiences and it’s been so cool to see people relating to that.

Can you tell us about the band’s future plans?

Kyle: We have some really exciting news coming over the next couple of months that I can’t talk about just yet but what I can say is we’ll be in the studio again soon and hope to tour next year if the world allows for it.
